Carbon Finance Training Workshop, March 26-27 2008
The World Bank Group is organizing "Lighting Africa - Carbon Finance Training workshop: Exploring Carbon Market Opportunities" on March 26-27, in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. This two-day training workshop will address opportunities for energy efficiency improvements in the lighting sector and their synergies with the carbon market available through the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM).

Call for Expressions of Interest
Lighting Africa will select ten models of solar lanterns for testing, based on the specification PVGAP PVRS11A. The lanterns will be selected for testing based on their volume of sales and relative performance. Lanterns that pass the tests may be eligible to receive the PVGAP Quality Mark issued by IECEE.

Development Marketplace Finalists
Over 400 proposals on innovative solutions for off-grid lighting for Africa were received from 54 countries, including 38 African countries. Of these, 54 were selected as “finalists” to go on to the final round of the competition, which will be held as part of the Lighting Africa 2008 global conference. In Accra, Ghana, the 54 finalists will come together to present their ideas to an international panel of jurors, to become one of 20 potential winners of the 2008 DM competition.
